Communication Environment and Protocols using in Digital Stations
Dip. Eng. Dinko Nikolaev Georgiev · 2024
Communication has always been very important in the operation of digital substations and the electricity system in real time. In the beginning, telephones were used for communication between the substations and the control center, as well as for operations in the substations. Remote control devices were based on telephone control and were invented back in the 30s of the last century and had the ability to provide control between several points. Digital communications were developed in the 60s of the last century, systems for automatic and collection of data from the measurements of the facility were installed in substations. As the bandwidth for communication is limited, the communication protocols of the systems are optimized to operate with low bandwidth over communication channels.
