An Inkjet-Printed Stretchable Sensor Patch for Multimodal Physiological Monitoring

Wei Ling, Xue Shang, Junchen Liu, Tao Tang · 2024

Emerging wearable technologies have opened up a realm of possibilities for accessible daily health monitoring. Here, an inkjet-printed stretchable sensor patch capable of electrochemical sensing and biopotential recording is presented. The sensor adopts a multi-layer configuration embedded with horseshoe-shaped serpentines, resulting in favorable mechanical stability that can withstand 20% deformation. By employing functional surface modifications, the sensor patch enables real-time monitoring of K+ and glucose with sensitivities of 55.72 mV/decade and 688.1$\text{nA}/(\text{mM}\cdot \text{cm}^{2})$respectively. In vivo experiments for recording biopotentials further confirm the capability of the sensor patch for on-body continuous biological quantification, leading to enhanced possibilities for low-cost, comprehensive healthcare management.
