For a variety of reasons, not the least of which is expense, it is not feasible to make turning tools and multi-toothed milling cutters from solid hardmetal unless they are very small. In these cases the body of the tool is made from steel and a hardmetal piece is attached to the cutting point, or points, of the tool.
