Categorical variables

Catherine M. Crespi · 2024

This chapter discusses power for the chi-square goodness-of-fit test, which compares the distribution of a categorical variable to a reference distribution, and the chi-square test of independence, which tests for an association between two categorical variables. We also discuss power for comparing two groups on an ordinal categorical variable. Large sample methods are used. We also discuss effect sizes for chi-square tests. The methods are implemented in R with examples.
