One of the fundamental theories of physics is that of quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics tries to explain the inconsistencies in the behaviors of systems at the macro and micro scales. Quantum mechanics paved the way for quantum computing based on qubits. Quantum computing utilizes the principles of quantum mechanics to process data in ways that are inherently distinct from those of classical computers; this signifies a paradigm shift in computation. This feature has significant consequences for cryptography, which involves the secure exchange of information in the presence of unauthorized individuals. Quantum computing attacks on cryptography mainly focus on the fundamental aspect of numerous existing cryptographic systems: the computational complexity of specific mathematical problems. The advent of quantum computers weakens the security of many cryptographic algorithms. In this chapter, we investigate quantum computing-based attacks and shed light on possible future developments.
