Managing the Quantum Cybersecurity Threat
Harjeet Singh · 2024
This chapter discusses the urgency for corporations and government bodies to enforce robust cybersecurity measures to combat impending quantum computing threats. Primarily, the “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later” concept has been spotlighted, where hackers store encrypted data today to decrypt the same with future quantum technologies. This poses a significant threat as quantum computers can break current encryption techniques at a much faster pace. To provide a robust counter-solution, researchers are developing new quantum-resistant cryptographic protocols. The deployment of quantum-safe cryptography now is fundamental to prevent future security breaches, even if quantum computers capable of breaking existing encryption are still in their infancy. Implementing quantum-safe security measures thus becomes pivotal to protecting data now and in the future.
