Analysing, compiling, and representing argument pattern structures: From form to meaning and back
María José Domínguez Vázquez · 2024
This paper focuses on the syntactic-semantic interface of argument patterns and the automatic generation of examples as their representation. Three language generators have been designed for this purpose: Xera, Combinatoria and CombiContext. This study presents CombiContext, the new prototype for the automatic generation of sentence frames starting from noun phrases provided also automatically by the generators Xera and Combinatoria. CombiContext relies on previous generators and on methods and approaches applied up to now, with some innovations. In general, the article proposes an inverted perspective to the prevalent one in the field of lexicographic research: instead of using corpus data to illustrate noun valency, we propose to generate examples according to the type of dictionary, its goal, and the target user. This new approach may lay the foundations for other new types of information systems, as well as for innovative microstructure elements.
