Privacy and Trust for the Internet-of-Things

Geir M. Køien, Vladimir A. Oleshchuk · River Publishers eBooks · 2024

In this chapter, we examine and outline security and privacy regarding the Internet-of-Things (IoT). The chapter is inspired by the “Reflections on Trust in Devices” paper [ 176 ] (by one of us). This is particularly apparent in the focus on trust, which is a very important aspect for IoT devices and services. Trust and trustworthiness are higher layer concepts, and in this context security is a supporting function for trustworthiness. Credible privacy may be seen as a prerequisite for consumer trust, but it is also an end to itself.
