Achieving Business Sustainability with Blockchain Technology

In light of the profound impact of sustainability on contemporary businesses, many are turning to innovative technologies to accomplish their objectives. Blockchain technology, with its secure and decentralised nature, can foster responsible behaviour in value delivery networks, thereby facilitating the transition towards sustainable business practices. This chapter aims to provide an overarching overview of the potential of blockchain in achieving economic, environmental, and social sustainability. To exemplify the significance of blockchain in promoting sustainability, we demonstrate six cases studies across the globe, which can inspire businesses to adopt a more sustainable approach to their operations. Such findings of this research contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the role of blockchain in accomplishing sustainable development goals, not only the technological aspects but also the socio-economic and environmental dimensions. Following these case studies, we equip policymakers, practitioners, and researchers with indispensable insights into how to harness the full the potential of blockchain for sustainable development.
