On Certain General Methods of the Extension of Hilbert Space*

The examination of many a problem of analysis, mechanics, and physics often shows the insufficiency of the set of integrable functions or that of square integrable functions. Thus the following question naturally arises: how to introduce in analysis certain new functions, ‘ideal functions’ that would not be functions in the strict sense of the word.
