Analysis of the Coupling Among Human Eye Movements and Moving Visual Stimuli

Analysis of human eye movements, a key area in biomedical science and engineering, reveals that visual stimuli significantly influence these movements, with eyes responding uniquely to different patterns. Utilizing information theory, our study assessed the relationship between eye movements and dynamic visual stimuli by presenting three types of movements to ten participants. Through Shannon entropy, we analyzed the changes in the information content of their horizontal and vertical eye movements in response to these stimuli. The results indicated a clear correlation: more substantial changes in the stimuli's information content led to greater changes in the information content of eye movements. This finding confirms that alterations in eye movements are closely linked to the changes in visual stimuli. Such insights are crucial for vision science and suggest that this methodology could be effectively applied in future studies to further explore the interactions between eye movements and various visual stimuli.
