Proposed Indoor Hybrid System Modeling

Rao Kashif · 2024

This chapter presents the modeling and experimental validation of a hybrid system that integrates radio over fiber (RoF) with visible light communication (VLC), building upon the previously proposed hybridize system in Chapter 5. Initially, the hybrid system is meticulously designed in software, encompassing both RoF and VLC components, to ensure seamless integration and functionality. Subsequent practical experiments were conducted, including modeling of the hybrid system with VLC in OptiSystem, visible light, and RoF indoor downstream experiments to assess visible light system performance over the RoF channel, and evaluation of Wi-Fi signals transmitted over indoor RoF channels with and without digital predistortion (DPD) techniques. The central hypothesis driving this research is that RoF can effectively serve as a backhaul connectivity solution for indoor VLC systems. Through a combination of simulation studies and real-world measurements, the performance and capabilities of the RoF-based hybrid system are rigorously assessed. The findings from both simulated and experimental results highlight the viability and efficacy of the proposed hybrid system in supporting indoor VLC communication, thus contributing to the advancement of hybrid communication systems and their practical implementation in indoor environments.
