Test security considerations for CAT and MST

Kirk Becker, J. Carl Setzer, Matthew Schultz, Yiqin Pan, Kaiwen Man · 2024

Test security is fundamentally about maintaining the integrity of test score interpretation. If an individual’s results do not reflect their capabilities, grades or credentials assigned to them based on those results may not be warranted, and decisions about hiring or promotion may be incorrect. If a group’s test results do not reflect their capabilities, the interpretation of the group’s quality or needs may be incorrect. Indeed, any breach in test security jeopardizes the interpretation of results, making security analysis crucial for the validity of any testing program. Test security can be thought of in terms of prevention, mitigation, and detection, all of which are seminal to the concept of test validity.
