RSA public key cryptosystem, RSA digital signature algorithm, and integer factorization

Esra Bas · 2024

This chapter includes the Rivest, Shamir, Adleman (RSA) public key cryptosystem, which is the first public key cryptosystem, and the RSA digital signature algorithm, which is the direct analog of the RSA public key cryptosystem. For both RSA public key cryptosystem and RSA digital signature algorithm, some selected variations including RSA-CRT are also presented. The security of the RSA public key cryptosystem and RSA digital signature algorithm basically depends on the hardness of factoring a large integer number into two prime numbers; however, there are also some other attacks which are provided briefly in this chapter. The basic approaches and algorithms for the factorization of an integer number into two prime numbers are also presented in this chapter. The RSA public key cryptosystem, RSA digital signature algorithm, and most of the algorithms for factoring an integer number into two prime numbers are illustrated with examples so that the basic steps can be clearer.
