Abstract: The use of data is paramount in the modern complex CIoT and that is why management of data has become more important in the contemporary world. Some of the challenges that centralized organizational data processing systems create include; The system is slow in terms of processing data and may have low scalability, has low security, and may not work efficiently as far as data integrity is concerned. Due to the decentralised form of blockchain, the same provide quite plausible solutions to these obstacles. This chapter presents the proposed approach of incorporating blockchain technology for distributed data storage in CIoT systems. The topic includes identification of the facts relevant to the study of blockchain technologies such as the history of the development, elements involved, and kinds of consensus. It also goes further to describe the architectural foundations that are required in order to harmonize CIoT with blockchain, specifically for data flow, data storage and increases in security. The chapter also considers different types of the decentralized data management systems: permissionless/ public, permissioned/ private, and the hybrid blockchain and their usage in CIoT settings. One main issue solved is the susceptibility and privacy issues that are characteristic of basic CIoT systems. These problems are not as likely with Blockchain because it encompasses decentralised concepts that can enhance security and privacy. The objective is to provide a conceptual framework to incorporate the blockchain solution for securing CIoT data to address issues with scalability and efficiency. In this chapter, the authors present the analysis of the successful cases of blockchain integrated CIoT systems based on the ranges of case studies and real-world implementations selected for investigation, and the successes and issues observed are presented. These topics include appropriate consensus mechanisms for CIoT, energy consumption of CIoT and smart contracts in relation to automating the CIoT data management process. The last section of the chapter provides knowledge about the prospects of predictions, possible regulations, and developments connected with decentralized data management for CIoT.
