popCAN: CAN-bus Application Level Protocol for Implementing Inter-Process Communication in Distributed Microcontroller Systems
Vladimir Zyubin · 2024
Paper describes a popCAN application layer protocol aimed at implementing distributed microcontroller systems based on process-oriented programming technology. Currently, when implementing distributed protocols based on CAN, the polling approach is mainly used, while the process-oriented approach describes the digital layer of a distributed system in the form of a set of communicating processes based on an event-driven approach. This, on the one hand, allows us to significantly reduce the load on the network, and on the other hand, it determines the development of a specialized protocol. The paper analyzes existing protocols, formulates requirements for the protocol, and describes the protocol and how to organize inter-process communication.
