Augmented Reality for Guiding Procedures, Consultations, and Localization in Hospitals

Anthony Uribe, Kevin Bravo, David Mauricio · 2024

This article presents an augmented reality (AR) application for navigating hospitals for patients and visitors, guiding them through procedural processes. The application consists of 3 modules that function to locate, manage, and display medical services. For validation, it was implemented in a level three public sector hospital in Lima, specifically in the gynecobstetrics corridors. Results from an experiment with 53 people who used the application over a period of 2 weeks show that the augmented reality system facilitated the location and experience of the application. This tool proved that it can reduce waiting times during hospital visits by providing a clear and direct route to the required destinations. Furthermore, its implementation could significantly contribute to operational efficiency, allowing better management of patient and visitor flows in large-scale facilities.
