Secure Aware Traffic Engineering Routing in Communication Network

Oleksandr V. Lemeshko, Anatoliy Persikov, Oleksandra Yeremenko · 2024

The paper presents an enhanced secure Traffic Engineering routing model that integrates network security parameters, balancing performance metrics like bandwidth and delay with security considerations. The approach ensures predictable computational complexity and low resource demands on network devices by formulating secure routing and load-balancing tasks as a linear programming optimization problem. The model introduces a novel modification to the communication link-blocking model, incorporating normalized conditions to prevent unnecessary blocking of secure links, thus optimizing resource utilization. The study demonstrates that the secure Traffic Engineering routing model effectively considers network topology, flow characteristics, and compromise probabilities, redistributing traffic to more secure, high-bandwidth links. Comparative analysis shows that while the classical TE model minimizes delay, it neglects security, resulting in higher packet compromise probability. The proposed NormSecTE model achieves a balanced trade-off between Quality of Service and security, particularly in networks with asymmetric characteristics.
