Assessing the Impact of Agile Frameworks on Undergraduate Software Development Education

Vanessa Maribel Choque-Soto, Víctor Darío Sosa-Jauregui · 2024

Teaching software development is a challenging task, as academic institutions need to equip their students with the skills and knowledge required to perform in their future professions. To achieve this, professors often experiment with new techniques, methods, and tools to improve student outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of agile software project management methodologies, such as Scrum and Kanban, on software development education. It also assessed the achievement of student outcomes as a significant measure for accreditation. The design of the study was a quasi-experimental one, with a non-equivalent group of about 20 students per semester serving as the experimental group. The results indicate that implementing these methods in software development education significantly impacts student outcomes, including skills, knowledge, and behaviors essential for success in the industry. Therefore, the utilization of agile frameworks in teaching software development enhances learning outcomes and provides practical skills for future professionals.
