On algorithmic problems in group theory

We give a survey of research directions and results of algorithmic nature, thatwas presented in the survey “Model-theoretic and algorithmic questions in group theory” by the V. A. Roman'kov and V. N. Remeslennikov that appeared in the series “Itogi nauki i techniki” in 1983 (Moscow: VINITI). We estimate this survey basing on the further inves- tigations. A number of results concerning algorithmic problems are given, that have been obtained during last years. We demonstrate changes in direction of algorithmic research in group theory.
