Virtual tool for biomedical signal synthesis

Constantin Daniel Oancea · 2024

Training in bioengineering and medicine requires a hands-on approach that allows students to experience and understand theoretical concepts in a real-world context. The analysis of signals, for example electrocardiogram (EKG), is important for understanding the functioning of the human body and diagnosing diseases. There are a few limitations of traditional learning methods such as lack of access to equipment, high complexity of equipment and lack of flexibility. Building a virtual tool for biomedical signal synthesis provides an affordable, flexible and safe alternative for training. The way it works is to use waveform models in the form of files containing the time domain description of the signal. This article presents an easy method by which the synthesis of a signal can be implemented, in the present case an EKG type signal. By extension, the method can be applied to any waveform, for which there is a pattern.
