Fundamentals of Edge AI and Federated Learning

Edge AI and Federated Learning (FL) have emerged as breakthrough technologies as a result of the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Edge AI reduces data processing latency while boosting user privacy by evaluating data closer to its source using edge devices' local processing capabilities. FL (FL) is a collaborative, decentralized approach to education. Edge devices can use FL to train a shared model while preserving local control over their data. As a result, the combination of FL and Edge AI provides a revolutionary paradigm with immense potential to alter how AI is utilized to construct a connected world. This chapter provides a thorough examination of Edge AI and FL. Furthermore, it highlights the benefits of combining Edge AI with FL and some significant advantages and benefits of each technology. Moreover, it is a reference point for real-world applications in many sectors. This chapter also highlights FL and Edge AI challenges, future research directions, and open issues.
