In this paper, a new hybrid maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method is proposed, which combines the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm with the conventional perturb and observe (P&O) method assisted by the cubic spline interpolation (CSI) technique. The main contribution lies in the use of an approximate model based on CSI. To evaluate the efficiency and performance of the proposed hybrid method to reach the global maximum power point (GMPP), a case study was created with different operating scenarios. The proposed MPPT method has a shorter tracking time, better efficiency and can achieve the GMPP regardless of operating conditions.
