Role of Blockchain Technology in Sustainability Reporting

This chapter briefly discusses the role of blockchain technology in strengthening the current sustainability reporting ecosystem and ways it can address issues of trust and information asymmetry. It covers aspects related to the adoption of blockchain technology with regard to transparency in sustainability data, sustainable supply chains, environmental sustainability, enhancing corporate governance and assurance of sustainability reports. There is an exponential growth in demand for sustainability reporting, and the adoption of blockchain technology would help to furnish more useful and transparent information on environmental, social and governance aspects to various stakeholders.
