Feminism and digital archaeology

Katherine Cook · 2024

Set between the traditionally white male dominated spheres of archaeology and the technology industry, digital archaeology has in many ways been shaped and innovated by feminist approaches to reconstructing the past and mobilizing those narratives for the larger public. This chapter will trace the contributions of feminist approaches in digital methods and theory, particularly the ways in which they have been rooted in empathy, inclusion, empowerment, and equity. It will also consider intersections with queer, lack, and ndigenous archaeologies, and ongoing challenges to reimagine the past while also transforming the discipline of archaeology in the present using digital applications and innovations.
