Various in silico simulation applications of mathematical models, such as decision support systems, digital twins or in silico trials, require the structured use of models. To ensure uniform modeling and facilitate the combination of models, a unified model structure is proposed. The structure follows the biomedical categories anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology and is compatible with the established failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), thus enabling the evaluation of the digital patients’ condition. An exemplary structured implementation of models for mechanical ventilation and a visualization of the status of in silico patients are presented demonstrating the advantages of the proposed structure.
