Perspective Chapter: Postquantum Security

Degala Satyanarayana · IntechOpen eBooks · 2024

The advent of quantum computing technology carries a new evolution of computer technology called quantum computers, which are quite different from the currently available computers on the market. These computers have extensive computing capabilities; for instance, the quantum computers have one million times higher computing capacity than the currently available computers in the market. On the other hand, these quantum computers give different challenges to the online digital currency systems, precisely on banking financial transactions. The cryptographic algorithms used in financial transactions always assume that the current computing capabilities cannot decipher secret information with the presence of hard mathematical problems, such as integer factorization, discrete logarithm problem, and periodic finding problem. However, quantum computers can exceed the computing capabilities to decrypt secret codes and information. Hence, it is very important to discuss and review the postquantum security issues and developments. This book chapter presents information on the postquantum security mechanisms.
