The state of affairs of Narrowband intelligent systems are reviewed in this study of pervasive computing using Narrowband technology. The overall context, evolution timeline, and standards of industry 4.0 using narrowband are presented first. Then, we reassess various research on Narrowband pervasive computing technology undertaken nationally and globally, highlighting fundamentals and related technologies such as the study of connection count theory, examining delay, magnification of coverage technique, technology for extremely low-power consumption, and connection between signaling and data. Then, we evaluate NB-performance IoTs against that of other wireless and handheld communication techniques in terms of latencies, privacy, accessibility, information transfer rate, energy use, channel capacity, and coverage area. We also examine the five NB-IoT intelligent applications, including smart metering, smart buildings, and environmental assessment. Finally, we list the critical NB-IoT regulatory standards that must be addressed right away. The goal of these discussions is to give readers a thorough understanding of NB-IoT that will enable them to comprehend the technological challenges and potential avenues for future research with NB-IoT. In addition to the extensive review of pervasive computing using Narrowband, this study acknowledges the ongoing advancements in communication technologies beyond Narrowband, such as 6G and beyond. These emerging technologies pose their own unique challenges that need to be tackled in the context of future research. NB-IoT serves as a complementary solution by providing an energy-efficient and cost-effective option for low-power IoT deployments over large areas. Furthermore, 6G is expected to push the boundaries of IoT capabilities even further, delivering enhanced connectivity, faster data rates, and support for a wider array of IoT use cases with distinct requirements.
