A Comprehensive Software Complexity Metric Based on Cyclomatic Complexity
N. N. Thathsarani · 2024
This paper presents a comprehensive software complexity metric that integrates Cyclomatic Complexity with various structural factors to better assess software quality. The newly proposed metric, Enhanced Cyclomatic Complexity (ECC), incorporates the number of methods, executable statements, inputs, outputs, and total lines of code, providing a more holistic view of software complexity. The ECC metric is generalizable and can be adopted across various programming languages and software projects, making it a versatile tool for developers and project managers. The effectiveness of ECC is demonstrated through a comparative analysis with the traditional Cyclomatic Complexity metric using Java programs. This study aims to offer deeper insights into the control flow and data complexity of software, enhancing code quality evaluation for developers and project managers.
