Research on the Relationship between Resource Utilization Rate of 5GC Network Elements and Network Traffic Volume

The utilization rate of virtual layer resources is one of the indicators for measuring the KPI of 5G networks. With the continuous increase in network traffic, the demand for virtual layer resources from upper-layer network elements is also increasing. The resources consumed by network elements mainly include CPU, memory, and hard disk. The realization of network element functions relies on different types of service VMs, and different types of VMs provide different services, so the demand for resources also varies. At the same time, resource configuration must meet the operator's operational requirements even when the network element's maximum capacity threshold is reached, ensuring that network performance indicators meet the operator's operational requirements. This article first introduces the carrier of the middleware layer of domestic operators' 5GC network element virtualization, as well as the main types of service VMs, then takes AMF as an example to introduce the network performance indicators that operators are concerned about through the business volume model adopted in actual operations. Finally, through the results of laboratory testing, it elaborates on the changes in resource utilization rates of different types of service VMs under different business volumes while ensuring that network performance indicators meet the standards.
