Modern Salient Object Detection in Image: Methods and Measures

Salient object recognition is crucial in computer vision; it looks for prominent or salient items in movies or images. Convolutive neural networks, particularly generative adversarial networks, have overgrown and are now a prominent paradigm for salient object recognition. This has led to advancements in the detection accuracy and velocity of protruding objects. In this work, focusing on salient object recognition, we comprehensively introduce the methods of research advancements. In particular, we first present approaches for extended object detection based on general object detection algorithms (such as Fast R-CNN, YOLO, and SSD), covering their fundamental concepts, essential stages, benefits, and drawbacks.
