Blockchain technology offers promising solutions for Electronic Health Records (EHR) management by enhancing data security, privacy, and interoperability. Its decentralized structure ensures robust security, mitigating data breaches and enabling secure, patient-centered data sharing. Case studies from Estonia and MIT’s MedRec project demonstrate blockchain’s real-world benefits in ensuring data integrity and improving interoperability. However, challenges like scalability, regulatory compliance, and high costs pose obstacles to adoption. Future research should focus on large-scale pilot programs, cross-border data exchange protocols, and standardized frameworks to support blockchain integration in healthcare. By addressing these challenges, blockchain has the potential to transform healthcare into a more secure, efficient, and interoperable ecosystem globally.
