Can we create an artefact of a piece of interactive audio?
Lucy Ann Harrison · Focal Press eBooks · 2024
This chapter addresses debates around archiving and creating an artefact of interactive sound and music. Reasons for creating an artefact can include recreating the work in the future, providing a record of the work for analysis and study, advertising a work and preserving and archiving work that is considered culturally significant. As the field is now at the point where interactive sound and music is being added to archives and the canon is being established, decisions being made now will impact our archives and stored material for future analysis and understanding of the work and study. The chapter will look at the concept of the work in the context of interactive sound and music, drawing on established aesthetic debates to provide workable approaches to create an artefact for a range of interactive sound and music.
