Blockchain Adoption for Sustainable Management System

Uddipan Nath · 2024

Blockchain technology has emerged as a revolutionary force, challenging traditional paradigms of data management and security. The technology&s;s fundamental principles revolve around transparency, immutability, and trustlessness. Blockchain&s;s trustlessness, while often misunderstood, is a cornerstone of its design. While blockchain holds immense promise, it is not without its challenges and limitations. Scalability remains a significant concern. Energy consumption, especially in proof-of-work blockchains like Bitcoin, has sparked debates about the environmental impact of blockchain technology. This technology has shown great promise in contributing to sustainable management systems, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of the most compelling applications of blockchain in sustainable management is its ability to enhance supply chain transparency. Blockchain&s;s transparent ledger enables the tracking of products and materials throughout the supply chain, reducing fraud and ensuring the authenticity of ethical sourcing. This, in turn, advances several SDGs including Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Adoption of blockchain holds immense potential in promoting sustainable management systems and the UN&s;s 17 SDGs. The ongoing discussions and initiatives in this field are integral to realizing a more sustainable and equitable world.
