This study highlights the complexities and importance of safeguarding Internet of Things (IoT) networks, spotlighting the pivotal role of vulnerability assessments. As IoT devices are the backbone across diverse sectors, securing their interconnected web is crucial. This paper traverses the trajectory of vulnerability assessments, revealing how they evolve to combat the escalating security challenges within the IoT landscape. Employing a blend of literature review, analytical case explorations, and evaluation of modern assessment methodologies, the presented study unveils the essential requirement of a multilayer approach in these assessments. The fusion of this study demonstrates that preventive and iterative assessment strategies, boosted by collaborative industry efforts, are vital to secure IoT systems against complex threats, thereby ensuring the integrity and resilience of these digital infrastructures.
