Federated Blockchain Based Highly-Available Healthcare System to Protect the Privacy and Security of Users

Satish Kumar, J. Sathish Kumar · 2024

Medical records contain extremely sensitive data and it requires high security measures to protect them. Availability of information plays important role in the treatment of patient. Existing EHRs suffers problems such as single-point-failure, transparency and privacy of users. To solve these problems, we have presented a blockchain based EHR system that solve the above-mentioned problems. To solve the single-point-failure we have divided healthcare into four distributed peers and used peer database along with private database to maintain the privacy. Peer database contains information which is need to be shared across the nodes and connected to other peer’s database with secure channels. Whereas, private database store sensitive information and only connected to its associated peer. It can only be access by the private channel. An identity manager is defined to manage the network configurations and policies. The proposed system is evaluated on the basis on send rate, latency and throughput. Hyperledger fabric is used to implement the proposed architecture and Hyperledger calliper is used to evaluate the network with respect to send rate, number of transactions, throughput and latency.
