Sound's Spatial-Material Circuitry
Raviv Ganchrow · 2024
How does context manifest in sound? What are the dynamics and scopes of sound’s spatiality? How do sounds operate and what material affordances do these operations entail? Sounds always occur ‘somewhere’, endowed with specific ‘qualities’ that indicate situated activities and possible courses of action. This text explores circuitries through which sounds manifest in spatial-material configurations and the manners in which those spaces materialise contexts-in-action. Observing sound’s oscillatory-reach opens onto a broader range of connective circuits that recalibrate notions of site-specificity and situated attentions towards the broader open-ended tectonics of relational interactions. Attending to sound’s circuit dynamics reveals expansive, distributed, entwined, dimensions of terrestrial vibrancy in which qualities are essentially relational, contexts are reciprocal, and identities are always in-the-making.
