Damola Olugbade · Advances in educational technologies and instructional design book series · 2024

In rural Nigeria, access to quality education is still a challenge that needs attention, as there are numerous hindrances to the attainment of knowledge. This chapter suggests a transformative paradigm shift that leverages the confluence between artificial intelligence (AI) and mobile technologies in democratizing education and promoting inclusive learning environments. This chapter imagines a future where the gap between digital technology haves and have-nots, will have been closed, by discussing AI powered mobile applications that transcend borders of both geography and economics. The chapter proposes taking advantage of existing telecommunication infrastructure to deliver educational content and facilitate virtual classrooms as mobile devices have become ubiquitous even in remote areas. We imagine a future that sees the removal of barriers such as geography, language and socio-economic status, enabling every Nigerian child access quality education.
