Evaluation of the Quality of Service Parameters for IoT in Outdoor Environment

Bharti Mehra, Ashutosh Datar · 2024

In the scenario of Internet of Things (IoT), getting data from the physical environment using sensors or smart devices has always been a task of great interest. Designing and analyzing sensor networks is a challenging part of any sensor network. It is always desirable to get maximum signal strength and low latency. In this research, we have designed and analyzed a transmitter and receiver system for IoT applications. The popular ESP32 and ESP8266 based IoT modules are used in all possible combinations of master and slave, communicating data in line-of-sight. The status of various parameters like received signal strength indicator (RSSI), latency, distance, time, and power consumption are monitored at different outdoor locations. The master and slave used the ESP-NOW protocol for data transfer. The quality of services (QoS) parameters for IoT networks are also evaluated Furthermore, efforts are made to optimize the best range for better communication between the devices.
