Chapter 6: Two-Point Boundary Value Problems (BVPs)
Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics eBooks · 2024
This chapter concerns numerical methods for second-order boundary value problems in one dimension. These problems are posed on an interval, whose boundary consists of two points, hence the name two-point boundary value problems. For simplicity in exposition, the discussion will focus on the following specific model problem: Given a function f and numbers α, β, find a function u such that More general problems will also be considered in the examples and exercises. Throughout this chapter, we will use the notation for functions g ∈ C[0, 1].
