Quantum cryptography is an innovative accomplishment of the existing developments in the sphere of information protection with the help of achieving a series of entirely protected communication courses, which are theoretically utterly invulnerable to wiretapping. This chapter gives an outline of the basics and prospects of the quantum cryptography as an essential approach to protect the information. The first part of the book describes the fundamentals of quantum mechanics that form the foundation of quantum cryptography and provide the basis of the quantum cryptographic protocols: superposition and entanglement. We then move to discussing several QKD protocols; the basic BB84 protocol, the E91 protocol, and the continuous-variable QKD. The working of the QKD systems and issues concerning the actual use of QKD are discussed through examples of QKD implementations. Thus, this chapter will serve an informative purpose to the researchers, practitioners, and students working in the field of quantum cryptography which is in a constant state of development.
