A Brief Review on Question Answering System: Techniques, Challenges and Future Directions

Question-answering (QA) systems have emerged as powerful tools for information retrieval and knowledge extraction. These systems aim to provide accurate and concise answers to user queries, facilitating efficient access to information from vast repositories of structured and unstructured data. This paper presents a comprehensive review of question-answering systems, discussing their underlying techniques, challenges, and future directions. We analyze various QA approaches, including rule-based, information retrieval-based, and machine learning-based methods, highlighting their strengths, limitations, and real-world applications. Additionally, we explore the challenges faced by QA systems, such as language understanding, context comprehension, and scalability issues. Finally, we present promising directions for future research, such as leveraging deep learning models, incorporating multi-modal information, and advancing explainability and interpretability in QA systems.
