The Suspicious Activity AI is an advanced solution aimed at bolstering security measures and public safety through the utilization of artificial intelligence. This system entails an intelligent CCTV surveillance system tasked with continuously monitoring public spaces, identifying ordinary and suspicious conditions, and issuing alerts accordingly. Given the challenge of constantly monitoring individuals in public settings, such a system is imperative. Recent articles have highlighted the significance of anomalous behavior detection in public spaces. However, comprehensive examinations of various forms of aberrant behavior are lacking. Consequently, this paper aims to address this gap by reviewing the progress made in recognizing illicit activities in surveillance videos over the past decade. The preface provides an overview of the challenges associated with identifying suspicious behavior, emphasizing the complexity of the task. Throughout the paper, a thorough examination of publications focusing on abnormal behavior detection is conducted. This includes studies on abnormal conditions exhibited by individuals and analyses of suspicious activities observed through various surveillance techniques such as object tracking and performance analysis. In summary, this paper delves into the current state of recognizing illegal activities in surveillance videos, offering insights into the advancements and challenges encountered in the field over the past ten years. By focusing on the detection of suspicious behavior in public spaces, it aims to contribute to the ongoing efforts to enhance security and public safety through intelligent surveillance systems.
