According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in India, there are an estimated 4.95 million blind individuals and 70 million people with vision impairments, including 240,000 children. Many of these cases go undetected and those that are detected go untreated. However, people with low-threshold visual impairment can use external aids that are to be covered in this study to make their daily lives easy. Most of these devices that help a visually impaired person identify what is in their surroundings are either of very high cost or not user-friendly. Our study presents a cost-effective, wearable device that helps a semi-blind person identify objects in their surroundings, including texts. By using a Raspberry Pi with computer-vision technologies, an accurate and precise solution is explored throughout the study.
