Sonar signal classification stands as a pivotal technology in the realms of underwater exploration, navigation, and defense. It enables the identification and categorization of different objects and targets based on the characteristics of their sonar reflections. This data proves indispensable across a spectrum of applications, encompassing target identification, threat assessment, underwater mapping, fisheries management, environmental monitoring, and real-time decision-making. Recently, deep learning algorithms have been shown to be very effective at classifying sonar signals. In this study, we evaluate several deep-learning techniques for classifying sonar signals using different datasets. The continual advancements in deep learning have markedly elevated the accuracy of sonar signal classification, thereby solidifying its status as an increasingly invaluable tool for underwater operations.
