The importance of image encryption has grown significantly, particularly in light of the rapid advancements in multimedia applications. An improved quadratic mapping (IQM) is presented and used in this work to create a new image encryption system. The performance reveals that IQM outperforms standard quadratic mapping regarding the Lyapunov exponent and chaotic range. The IQM sequences were successfully utilized in a newly presented image encryption method with good obfuscation and diffusion capabilities. The encryption framework uses a permutation-diffusion procedure that begins with a traditional permutation and is distinguished by a high diffusion speed that allows simultaneous encryption of three components of the plaintext image, which are encrypted and correlated. According to simulation results, this proposed system has an excellent number of pixel change rate (NPCR), unified average change intensity (UACI), and entropy values.
