Petri net: modeling, properties and analysis techniques
Sakshi Gupta, Shelly Garg · 2024
Graph theory is a branch of mathematics that is used to study the pairwise relations between the objects of a network. Petri net (PN) is a special type of graph that has emerged as an important mathematical technique to analyze the behavior of the network. It is a mathematical and computational formalism used to model and study the complex networks having concurrent and parallel interactions between their components. Petri net has been widely applied in the application areas, such as computer networks, telecommunication networks, biological networks, social networks, communication networks and many more. The elements of these networks are represented by vertices and the links between these elements is represented using the edges. The study of these networks helps to analyze the complex relation between their elements. Due to the widespread availability of the vast network data sources in the recent years, the study of networks has received a major boost. The current work discuss the basic definitions, properties and analysis methods of Petri nets used to model and analyze any network behavior.
