Cybersecurity challenges for social, ad-hoc, and sensor networks in internet of things

Nisar Ahmad, Mahfooz Alam · 2024

With the rapid advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT), our daily lives now revolve around connected devices. Social networks, which serve as platforms for communication and information sharing, have also embraced the IoT paradigm. However, the integration of social networks with the IoT introduces significant cybersecurity challenges. This paper explores the unique security concerns that arise from the convergence of social, ad hoc, and sensor networks in the IoT, including privacy threats, data integrity risks, and the potential for malicious attacks. We discuss the vulnerabilities inherent in social networks in the IoT context and propose potential solutions and best practices to mitigate these challenges. To address these challenges, security in social, ad hoc, and sensor networks in IoT abstraction requires a combination of intrusion detection systems, access control mechanisms, encryption techniques, and user education. Additionally, ongoing research and collaboration between industry and academia are vital to stay ahead of emerging threats and vulnerabilities in these evolving network environments.
