Research and Demonstration of an Innovative SRv6-Based Overlay Access Control Method in IP Networks

In this paper, we propose an innovative SRv6-based overlay access control method called PPPoE over IPv6, which combines the traditional PPPoE protocol and SRv6 protocol to realize overlay authentication and access control for users. This solution has a wide range of applications such as SD-WAN. Compared to traditional overlay tunnel schemes like VxLAN, IPSec and GRE, the proposed PPPoE over IPv6 scheme can realize session management. Specially, the PPPoE over IPv6 scheme can take advantage of network programmability of SRv6, and enable end equipment natively support SRv6 to realize the collaboration of underlay and overlay network. Laboratory verification test results for the technical solution verify the feasibility of the proposed protocol and the flexibility in supporting new SRv6 services.
