Ambient Internet of Things (AIoT) with low power consumption and low-cost characteristics have been widely discussed and studied in the tech industry and academic domains. Different from traditional coverage-limited Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), AIoT can further improve coverage, which will be used for a ubiquitous heterogeneous networking connecting human and things. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (WiFi) are advancing the AIoT process of standardization to support the massive deployment. Except for the current basic application and design for AIoT, extended design and application can be considered for the next wireless communication network. Thus, this paper gives an insight of enabling and potential AIoT technologies based on standardized and academic researches. As a baseline, we firstly analyze the device's architecture and corresponding key challenges including reflection amplifier, frequency shifter, energy harvesting and harmonic interference. Then, we focus on the analysis of potential technologies, including AIoT sensing, AIoT based Non-terrestrial network (NTN) and AIoT based transceiver, which can provides a new insight for future research.
